Classification and Labelling

Classification is based on data found only in high concentration animal studies

The labelling of di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) with R 62 (possible risk of impaired fertility) and R 61 (may cause harm to the unborn child) is part of the ongoing EU classification and labelling process of chemical substances under Directive 67/548/EEC.

It is based on existing data found only in high concentration studies on animals and describes the inherent properties of the chemical substance. The properties of a substance should not be mistaken for actual risk, which depends on what you do with a substance and how you handle it. Labelling sets the frame for good working practices and suitable protection measures.

Accordingly, the Risk Assessment Report, which was published by the EU commission in 2003, outlines more precisely that no concern for consumers was identified for DBP.
